Satire de l’autorité, des hiérar­chies et des sys­tèmes poli­tiques (cap­i­tal­isme, com­mu­nisme…) cette comédie de science-fiction s’amuse des tra­vers de nos sociétés sur Terre. Les habi­tants de la planète “Pluke” maitrisent une tech­nolo­gie avancée et pra­tiquent la télé­por­ta­tion à tra­vers les galax­ies mais leur société se com­plait dans une bar­barie sociale sans fard. Ses habi­tants pointent par exem­ple un scan­neur de la taille d’un bri­quet sur leur con­génères : la couleur (en dehors de toute autre con­sid­éra­tion) qui s’affiche indique le rang, le rap­port social et par con­séquent le com­porte­ment à adopter. De même on se prosterne devant les “pan­talons jaunes” qui sont signe d’une richesse matérielle supérieure. Télé­pathes, ils vivent par le men­songe et entre deux marchandages ne songent qu’au prochain coup bas… en atten­dant de se soumet­tre — sans même esquisser une quel­conque résis­tance — à la puni­tion de la boite “avec ou sans clous”

Le film four­mille de trou­vailles gestuelles, de codes inven­tés qui agis­sent comme des miroirs de nos sociétés, de véhicules poé­tiques, d’objets qui sont sou­vent autant d’allusions comiques à une sor­dide réal­ité (la cage dans laque­lle les artistes sont tenus de se pro­duire). L’aspect visuel du film avec ce choix du “low tech”, cette usure, la rouille omniprésente réjouis­sent l’œil.

ll est amu­sant de penser que la cen­sure russe — le film date de 1986 — sans doute trop déroutée par son côté sur­réal­iste a laissé passer ce film sans sour­ciller. Lorsque qu’on sait les déboires de Tarkovsky…
