Deux concerts + divers
Grande découverte l’autre soir: la musique d’Hélène Labarrière.
« Hélène Labarrière sounds to me complete: completely in control, physically, of her bass violin, and cerebrally, in her understanding of how to use her great athletic skills. And above (this is music, after all) Hélène has a great SOUND. Her writing is erudite and adventurous, but above all as ORGANIC as her playing. ‘Nature’ seems to flow through her as naturally as fruit arriving on the branches of trees when the sun and the rain have done their work.
I have heard her in diverse contexts, but not , I think, before this beautiful CD, as director and principal catalyst. And she’s chosen her comrades here so carefully: those musicians know how to play together, as part of a living and coherent organism. Anyway (words are invevitable clumsy) as the cliché has it, this music speak for itself. Pay attention: this fruit is ripe: now feed your ears! »
